Harlem done went and did it again. 2008 was full of fresh artists breaking out of the underground, and Charles Hamilton was there to ensure that Harlem stayed on the map. He’s also been generating lots of buzz releasing mixtapes, blogging profusely and performing in shows with other acts, like his Puma 60th Anniversary Show with Chester French and The Knux and performing with established artists like Rhymefest on college campuses. Hamilton has also been christened by XXL as a member of the new freshman class of 2009 which features other promising acts such as Asher Roth, Wale, Corey Gunz, Kid Cudi and Mickey Factz. The 20 year old is full of promise and is currently signed to Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records and is already set to change the future of music.
Taking a look at Hamilton’s blog, “Abbreviated Dreams/Extended Nightmares: The Charles Hamilton Blog” gives anyone whose doubtful insight into what this young cat is really about. From his proclivity to all things Sonic the Hedgehog to his philosophy on God, theories on Rastafarians and expansive music taste Hamilton’s assertive voice seems reminiscent of other rapper-producers intent on bringing their world view to the masses (cough…Kanye…cough…Lupe…ahem). But don’t call Hamilton a copycat. Not many artists out there are willing to give props to aspiring artists that release diss tracks on You Tube or continually assess their daily lives and provide a break down into what caused an event to be good or bad.
