Okay, so maybe the overweight lover isn’t exactly new to the game. We all know and love overweight lover Dwight Myers, aka Heavy D, but a full reggae drop is something we haven’t seen him bring to the game before. It’s admittedly unexpected, but we’re looking forward to what Heavy D has to bring.

Heavy D emerged as a music artist as a rapper in the late 1980s with group Heavy D and the Boyz. Soon leaving them, the Jamaican-born/Mount Vernon raised rapper struck out on his own as Heavy D. In his early career he brought us hits such as “Gyrlz, They Love Me.” and “Now That We Found Love.” Heavy D also made his mark on the telvision world, redording the themes for shows like In Living Color and Mad and appearing on shows including “Living Single”. Now, Heavy D has released his first all reggae album, Vibes, and the first single, “Long Distance Girlfriend,” has been getting play on radio stations and music video channels alike. It’s even topping the reggae charts.

While we never expected this career turn from Heavy D, it sure is welcome. If “Long Distance Girlfriend” isn’t enough to convince you, then also take a listen to these other gems: “Queen Majesty” and “Delilah.”

Check out his MySpace for a listen and look below for a gander of some new and old Heavy D.
