Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt, Olympian, and apparent Jamaican royalty, recently supported the New York based Children of Jamaica Outreach (COJO) fundraiser effort. He added his signature to three pairs of Puma sneakers to be auctioned off at a COJO fundraiser. The sneakers, a limited edition pair, were specially designed by Puma to commemorate Bolt’s 2008 world record of 9.72 seconds set at the Reebok Grand Prix in 2008, before the 2008 Olympic games. Bolt’s endorsement should no doubt be an asset to this organizations efforts. Or, so one would believe.

Recent news has shown us that no high profile star is free from the scrutinizing eye of the public and their respective governing boards. The effects of publicity gone bad can leave substantial financial losses for these celebrities. Michael Phelps, Olympian gold medalist in the sport of swimming, most recently lost a campaign endorsing Kellogs for some closed door private “activities” and Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees baseball star, stands to lose several deals in the wake of his steroid scandal as well. These claims make one wonder if even stars from an island such as Jamaica are or aren’t prone to such technicalities. Many, including International Olympic Committee President Jean Rogge, have commented that Bolt’s celebration of his incomparable victory at the 2008 games was not one of good sportsmanship. Luckily for Bolt dancing the “No linger’ has only brought him more notoriety and national pride.

RBMVibes hopes COJO makes a killing off their signature Bolt limited edition sneakers and Usain if you are reading this you can come sign some things for us over here as well-but please do nuh linga, we could use a little JA royalty love!
