Heard of Mishka? The name probably sounds familiar after high profile guest spots last month on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Carson Daily. His latest cd, “Above the Bones,” debuted at number one on the Billboard charts. This is not his first release -but it’s definitely the first where Matthew McConaughey has been the producer.

Mishka was born in Bermuda to a Bermudian father and a Canadian mother. He was raised on a boat, travelling through the Caribbean and soaking up the music and rythms of the islands. Influenced by a variety of genres and artists, including rock, Burning Spear and Bob Marley, Mishka has been crafting his own music since 1992 that blends acoustic soul and roots. His self titled debut was released in 1999, followed by “One Tree” in 2005. If Mishka’s talent wasn’t already self evident, it took a little help from the other side to get him the spotlight he deserves. In 1999, perpetually shirtless actor Matthew McConaughey heard Mishka’s debut on the beach in Jamaica. Since then, McConaughey has been taken by his music and endured a search to find this artist, finally culminating in the production of this latest album.
