Melanie Fiona’s “Give it to Me Right” as played on her MySpace starts off with a discussion about her feelings on music and her lifelong connection with the art form before divulging more about her heritage and journey to creating her album, “The Bridge.” The explanation didn’t even need to be given. Crossing over genres and drawing on her childhood in Toronto, Canada as well as her Guyanese heritage, Fiona leaves her listeners with a refreshed sound, full of upbeat tracks and pensive lyrics. Definitely ring tone material.
An early check of her music has already produced some early favorites. The remix to “Give it to Me Right,” features Busta Rhymes. “Sad Songs” talks about love lost and “Bang Bang” hypes up her rebel image. These will definitely be two to add to your playlists. And although Melanie Fiona is a new artist, she is already seasoned having accompanied Kanye West on the European leg of his Glow in the Dark tour, singing on Carson Daly’s “Last Call” and appearing on Reggae Gold 2008 with Supa Dups’ on “Come Get Me.” Word isn’t out on when this first album will officially drop, but it should be during the spring of this year. So keep an ear out, and remember who told you about Ms. Fiona first.
