Nothing brings downs a newcomer’s credibility more than having a similar act emerging at the same time. Even when the music isn’t similar, if something about the concept of the two artists reminds you of the other, one is bound to lost out on shine in comparison unless the two acts establish firm differences in their personalities. Need a historical reminder? Think back to Rihanna vs. Teairra Marie/ Britney Spears vs. Christian Aguilera vs. Jessica Simpson vs. Mandy Moore/ Backstreet Boys vs. N’Sync/…anybody Diddy releases to capitalize on a trend. And while we can see with the artists listed and more recent examples that sometimes it works out for all parties, just as often it doesn’t. Plus, who are we kidding…we all know that one of the groups ends up with a greater legacy. So not starting unnecessary beef, but we smell a music girl fight in the works.
