Contrary to popular belief our new sounds aren’t only imported from Britain and the Caribbean. Making sure we remember other countries and their contribution to the music world is newcomer Lykke Li. With 2008’s popular “Little Bit” of her debut Youth Novels, Li has capitalized on her seemingly simple sound, stacatto melodies, and basic emotions turned into catchy stories that stay with you for the rest of the day.

Placing Lykke Li into one genre is not easy. Everyone definitely agrees that she’s indie..but there’s yet to be consensus on whether her variation lies in pop, rock or something else. What she does do is provide music that a fan of any genre can enjoy. And she’s all over the place with some of her most popular renditions being a cover of A Tribe Called Quest’s “Can I Kick It?”, “Hustlin” by Rick Ross, and “Knocked Up” by Kings of Leon. She’s also collabed with Kanye West, Santogold and N.A.S.A. There isn’t much to describe Lykke Li’s sound without hearing her music. Most of you have had a little taste of the Swede through the Victoria Secret Ipex commercial last year, but here’s a bit more.
So what do you think? Are you a little bit in love with Lykke Li?
