Everyone stateside loves the musical imports from across the pond. Back in the day there were The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Late we had Sting and the Police as well as Bono and U2. Then there was the Spice Girls. Nuff said. Contemporary music has brought us a new take on soul, starting with Craig David and moving on to Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, Corrine Bailey Rae, Estelle, Duffy and Adele. RBMVibes has already taken note of the storm that is Susan Boyle, and today we bring to you Laura Izibor. She’s a real deal black Irish (1/2 Nigerian and 1/2 Irish, raised in Ireland) already creating great music and leaving us wanting for more.
Many of us may already be familiar with Izibor through her track “From My Heart to Yours.” Its the type of song that everyone knows, but no one can pinpoint where they heard it first. For the record, it was probably Grey’s AnatomyTough Love. Other tunes of Izibor’s are just as catchy even if they don’t have that familiar edge. Similarly they’ve been featured on may shows. “Shine” was used for The Nanny Diaries,. “Mmm…” was in Why Did I Get Married?, Seven Pounds, and Step Up 2. “Carousel” is on the P.S. I Love You soundtrack. “Don’t Stay” which has a fun beat, and asserts an independent in the face of adversity message is also one to bump in your next “everythinggonnabealright” playlist. Her debut album, “Let the Truth Be Told” , comes out later this month and promises more of that great British soul that we love. Check out some of her songs below and tell us what you think?
And also, not to be ignorant, but can you make head or tales out of what she says here?
