Elgin Baylor Lumpkin is better known to the world as Ginuwine. He came as part of a late nineties super package coupled with powerhouses Playa (of which producer Static was a member), Timbaland, Magoo, Missy Elliot, Tweet, and Aaliyah. His first hit, Pony, garnered him a set of loyal fans eager to listen to his smooth voice and just as eager to watch his latest videos. If you didn’t find him easy on the eyes, you at least were impressed by his dance moves. Ginuwine’s entertainment career progressed with many more hits including “So Anxious” and “Same Ol’ G.” Ironically, one of his most memorable would not be his own. Here enters the ever-present Sean Combs, who despite lacking the best rapping skills manages to make his songs hits. With the summer of 2002, Ginuwine was featured on Puffy’s “I Need a Girl (Part II)” and the two of them danced there way into music history along with Mario Winans. Just as well, Ginuwine has also done solid with lesser known hits like his remakes of Prince’s “When Doves Cry” and his dedication to his deceased parents, “Two Reasons Why I Cry.” This year he is back again, and his latest song “Last Chance” has been doing well on the charts. His album, A Man’s Thoughts hits the stores on June 23rd and the internet leaks promises us that same sooth voice over the tight tracks that we’ve come to expect him on. Look for tracks with classic collaborations like Timbaland and Missy and some newer sounds, like “Trouble” featuring Bun B.

Ginuwine’s career is more notable than most would realize. True, while his albums don’t get the highest sales records and some of his songs are less memorable for their content than they are for the his predilection to wearing wife beaters in so many videos, he has put out **nine albums** since 1996-three of them being compilations. He’s also started his own label and acted in Juwanna Man and Honey. Due to issues with his label, his last group effort TGT (Tank, Ginuwine, and Tyrese) was unable to continue only releasing one song, “Please Don’t Go.”

The rest of his personal life has taken on a happy note. His marriage to rapper Sole has been going strong for five years and the couple have two kids together and six more from previous relationships. Earlier this spring internet blogs were buzzing with rumors that Ginuwine and actress Lisa-Raye were having an affair started on the filming of his latest video. Both parties have denied the rumors and Ginuwine has spoken out about his love for his wive and kids. He said he would not do anything to jeopardize those relationships. This pony has apparently grown into a man.
