We interrupt our scheduled programming to bring you this breaking news: on June 2, 2009 President Obama declared June National Caribbean-American Heritage Month. As the roar of the crowd subsides, yes folks he has represented for us one again, we pause to point out that we are already celebrating Black Music Month. Now is this two for one a great deal or did we get baboozled by one of our own? Once again a debate we will consider at another time. As for now, what better reason to throw a fete, hold on to the big truck, signal the plane or whatever you do to celebrate-cause like they say in Jamaica, “we soon reach!” and if you know anything about Jamaican expressions this implies that this moment in history has been a long time coming. Maybe Wyclef Jean wasn’t far off when he sang “If I Were President“…

So as not to disappoint the fans our Black Music Month tribute continues with the years 2004-2006 with our selections being hits that have some six degree of separation(or less) link to the Caribbean.

2004
Elephant Man: Bun Bad Mind
Jamaicans will burn a fire on anything and seemingly even in church if we let Elephant Man tell the story. We dipped every way we knew how as we followed Elephant Man’s chorepgraphy which was fine since we all probably needed to get on our knees and say a prayer by the time we were done casting the first stone.

2005
Rihanna: Pon De Replay
It’s your girl and mine, Rih Rih. You know you were singing along even if it was only in your shower so feel free to do it again.

2006
Sean Paul: Temperature
Yes we know he was on the list last week, have a problem?…We didn’t think so afterall he has the right temperature to- well, that’s none of our business. Sean Paul has stayed true to his roots as a reggae artist hailing from Jamaica and has crossed over to do hits with world renowned stars such as Beyonce’, a nice way to sum up our review this week as we continue June’s many celebrations.
