One of the more beautiful colors on my fellow dark-skinned folk is white. Really the color works wonders. Needless to say since we were introduced to HYAH SLYCE via the “Feel So Fine” video we immediately started vibing with music before the lyrics started because white cotton combined with sand and wicked natural hair styles just has that effect on us. Luckily the song didn’t disappoint even after the costume change. If you’re trying to find a category for Feel so Fine which falls on the Beachfront Riddim think Richie Spice “Brown Skin” or Tarrus Riley “She’s Royal.” The beauty of women is affirmed, they’re referred to as royalty and even though the body portrayal wouldnt satisfy every feminist, its far far removed from Tip Drill.
Hyah Slyce hits home runs when he sings music focussing on love. In addition to “Feel So Fine” there’s “All and All” and “Love is An Action Word.” His ability to hit the falsetto adds a nice tone to the songs, brining you along the trail of love with him. His more conscience tunes also sound great as well. The only song where he seems to fall flat is “Highest to the Skiest.” Maybe if he thought of it as a love song to marijuana we would have been more convinced.
